This isn't going to be my best "article" this year. I've gotten 5 hours of sleep and I have a full day of cooking and events knocking on my office door, but I hope that it will be one of the most meaningful.
I'm thankful for:
- My Husband. He's my best friend and the one I can look to always for support... and to make me laugh. He can always put things in perspective when I'm overwhelmed and knows not to jump into my fire too soon. He is a constant source of knowledge and I officially name him Chief Sounding Board. ;)
- My Daughters. They have taken me into their hearts as if I were their own mother. They are lovely young women and will grow into amazing adults despite some of the examples set in their lives. I am so very grateful to have the opportunity to participate in raising them.
- My Son. He is a constant source of entertainment. He keeps me laughing and challenges me to examine and rexamine my beliefs. He keeps me focused on my goals and pushes me forward to be a better person.
- My Ex-Husband. He is a shining example of the behavior all "ex's" should exhibit. He is a good dad and just an all around great guy.
- My Family. My siblings, while all very different, inspire me to be a better person in so many ways. They are always supportive of each other and will always be the first to defend each other. My dad made me strong in mind and spirit, my mom, made me soft in touch and in the heart.
- My Friends. My friends are my second family and support group. Keep me sane, keep me laughing, keep me strong and in some cases, keep me from making a fool of myself. (that is, unless of course, they let me do foolish things to add to their blackmail arsenal) ;)
- My Fellow Countrymen and Women. I am unbelievably thankful to live in a country that can make such strides in a realtively short amount of time to be color blind when it comes to electing the leader of our country. I am thankful for their committment to their cause, on either side of the podium. I am continually learning from their convictions and because of that, am able to constantly question and refine my own beliefs. I thank them for being active in elections no matter what side they choose because that is fundamentally what keeps this great nation of ours alive.
- Our Forefathers. I can't express enough how grateful I am for their actions that led to the creation of the greatest government system in the world. One in which, we can choose our leaders and our policies. A government system that keeps the people in charge and allows, nay, in fact, encourages We the People, to keep our elected officials in check. The more I learn about the times and lives of the men that gave rise to this country, the more in awe I am of the entirety of the system. We, the People, truely have a lot to be thankful for.
